There is always races within the race. Bruce Magnusson and JR Anderson have had one of those races for years.
Ever since last year, where both ran the 8 dog class, Elliot Rivest and Maria Torgerson have another race going. Maria won the 8 dog class last year. Elliot came 2nd. They have both upgraded to the full Pedigree® Stage Stop Race now. They are both running strong B Teams.
Maria ran 8 dogs today, whereas Elliot took 10. They started 14th and 15th respectively. Today Maria, despite having 2 fewer dogs, was about one and half minutes faster than Elliot. As Jerry Bath pointed out at the finish line, fewer dogs does not necessarily mean a slower team.
