Recap of Pinedale Stage 1

Hello Pedigree Stage Stop Race Fans,

it is a wrap, Stage 1 in Pinedale is in the books. Dang, it was a snowy and windy stage, at least in certain spots. It seemed the worst wind was between Mile 5 and 10 ish. Surprisingly it was much nicer and calmer up in the high country, where even the sun tried to peek out.

Commentator Greg Sellentin made it all the way to the turn around at Mile 17.3 together with Race Judge Katie Davies. These nice pictures are from Greg.

I did some live video from Mile 16 ( and 18.5 respectively ). Teams were rather spread out today, with starting in signup order, not reverse starting order. That will change tomorrow, with Anny Malo posting the fastest time today, 2hrs 19 minutes and 3 seconds, she will go out last. A real surprise, at least for me, was to see Stephane Roy arriving in 2nd place. He is 6 minutes and 8 seconds behind Anny. That is a substantial gap. Alix Crittenden is about 4 minutes behind Stephane and Cathy Rivest only a minute behind Alix in 4th place. Considering that Bruce Magnusson’s team had a little bit of an ” off the trail adventure ” on the outbound trail, it is pretty impressive to see him in 5th place, only a minute behind Cathy. Only 2 minutes separate 3rd to 5th place. Very tight racing!

Young gun Liam Conner had an impressive run with 9 dogs in 6th position, edging out JR Anderson who has near 2 dozen Stage Stops under his belt. Sarah Tarlton, Al Borak and Mike Bestgen are rounding out the Top 10.

Tomorrow should bring more snow and potentially even a little bit higher winds than today. At least that is what the windy app is predicting right now. Time will tell how it actually looks!
