2008 Daily Results

January 28, 2008 - "This is epic! This is the first time in the 13 year history of the IPSSSDR that the course had to be stopped short in the middle of the race due to safety concerns. These mushers were enduring 60 plus mile per hour winds and a total whiteout at road crossings. It got really western out there. The race goes on and the clock is still ticking…"
-Frank Teasley, Race Director, commenting on the abrupt change to Stage 3’s course

Lander Team Posts Fastest Time in IPSSSDR Day Three; Leads Overall

January 28, 2008—Wendy Davis from Lander, Wyoming had the fastest time in day three of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) completing the 18-mile stage in 1:42:53. Melanie Shirilla from Lincoln, Montana was second with a time of 1:45:24. Sam Perrino from Yellowknife Northwest Territories, Canada, was third with 1:49:12.

In overall times, Davis leads with 7:52:59; Shirilla is second with 8:10:57; and Jacques Philip from Nenana, Alaska is third with 8:16:16.

Teams departed on an 18-mile course that began near Cora, Wyoming, traveling to Pinedale in storm conditions with extreme winds. Sixteen teams remain in the race.

On Tuesday, January 29, teams will depart from Marbleton/Big Piney. The race then will travel to Alpine on January 30; Kemmerer/Diamondville, January 31; and Evanston/Mountain View, February 1, before arriving in Park City, Utah, for the final stage and awards ceremony on February 2.

With its unique “stage stop” racing format, the IPSSSDR stops in a different community each night, allowing Wyoming’s host towns to show their hospitality: Festivities on offer for mushers and spectators alike include pancake feeds, dog parades, banquets, carnivals, and snowshoe softball.

The Pedigree® brand actively supports a wide range of programs that promote responsible pet ownership and highlight the contributions dogs make to society.

International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race, the largest dog sled race in the lower 48 states, was founded in 1996 by Frank Teasley to make sled dog racing more accessible to the public.
